Annual Funding Expo
The region’s annual Funding Expo is scheduled for 16 May, with speakers and displays on topics ranging from getting your message out to why the job of funder is not as easy as it sounds.

This is the third year the expo has been held, and it is a one stop shop for community groups reliant on funding from government and other agencies and charities.

Organiser Judene Edgar said trying to find the necessary funds for community groups was getting harder and more competitive. The funding expo is designed to provide groups with the information they need to work smarter, rather than harder to secure funding, so they can get back to the real work of their organisations, she said.

Therre will be workshops on finding funding sources through the Funding Information Service, success stories from the IHC’s national fundraising and volunteer programmes, learning some dos and don’ts for successful grant applications, learning new ways of promoting your organisation and finding out more about the Charities Commission. There will also be displays from JR McKenzie Trust, local councils, Canterbury Community Trust, Department of Internal Affairs, Nelson Arts Council and others, offering participants the opportunity to talk directly to funders and to learn about other funding opportunities.

The expo is on Friday 16 May 2008 at the Hope Community Church on Ranzau Road opposite Ranzau School. Registration is not required. Doors open at 9.30am.
