Building regulations pose management challenge for Council
Building regulations pose management challenge for Council

9 October 2006

Tasman District Council is not threatening to stop providing building consents and there has never been any suggestion it was threatening to stop providing building consent permits, said chief executive Bob Dickinson. Regulations imposed by the new Building Act present were overkill and represented the biggest single management challenge facing Council right now.

The recent 40 percent increase in building charges means Council is struggling to recover the cost of building consents.

Council has expressed its concerns to Minister for Building Issues, Clayton Cosgrove, but his answer offered no real suggestions or hope of reducing regulatory burdens in the future.
