Playtime gets a new look The old playground on the corner of Richmond’s Cambridge and Oxford Streets is well used by local youngsters, but fifteen years on from its last upgrade is looking a little jaded. Reserves Officer Glenn Thorn is making plans to develop the park with new recreational equipment, pathways and a water feature.
“The Park is on the main thoroughfare for children attending Richmond School and the kindergartens and day care centres in Waverly Street and on Oxford Street, and gets a lot of use. The new design and equipment will make it a much more exciting place for children to play,” said Glenn.
The plans for the park include a watercourse with rocks for climbing on. For safety reasons the stream-bed will be fitted with a hand pump, so that children can pump water into the stream when they want to play there. No water will flow in the stream unless it is pumped in. There is also provision for public seating, new shrubberies and new play equipment suitable for children or all ages.
