Golden Bay Community Board 2009 Garden Competition
 
Entries close Wednesday 2nd December at 4.30 pm.
Judging will take place on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th December.

Register at the Tasman District Council Golden Bay Service Centre in Takaka by phone (525 0020) or by entry form available at the office.

2009 categories are:
• Best Vegetable Garden (not including orchard)
• Best Orchard (any size)
• Best Group Garden – school, community, church, club, business, etc
• Best Road Frontage Garden (what is visible from the road)
• Best Self Sufficient Garden/Property (organic, water efficiency, variety of produce, growing for all seasons)
• Best Flower/Formal Garden (Private property & under 2000 m²)
• Best Novice Gardener (gardener has gardened for less than 3 years)

Please note – each property can enter a maximum of 2 categories. If they enter the Self Sufficient Garden category then they can’t enter the Vegetable Garden or Orchard section too.

Weekly bus trips to ASB Aquatic Centre

Timed to take in aqua-fitness classes, swimming lessons or swimming of your choice.
Leaving Rec. Centre carpark Wednesdays at 9.45 am sharp and returning to Rec. Centre by approximately 1.00 pm.

$7.50 return, preschoolers free.

Planting Day
 
Black Valley Stream, St Arnaud
Sunday, 22 November 2009, 1.00 pm onwards

Meet at the footbridge on Bridge St, St Arnaud.
Bring a spade, good sturdy shoes and gardening gloves.
We will be planting natives on the stream banks to replace the willows that were controlled last winter.
Suitable for all abilities so bring the family. Afternoon tea will be provided on-site.

Motorcycle / Scooter training and skills courses
 
Further motorcycle / scooter courses are being run now the weather has warmed up.
The next courses will take place on:

• Saturday 21 November 2009 (beginner / intermediate)
• Sunday 22 November 2009 (advanced)

These courses are suitable for riders of all ages and experiences and on all types of bikes or scooters. From students scootering to school to those who are getting back on a bike after a few years there will tips and advice on cornering, emergency braking, hazard detection and avoidance, understanding the limitations of your and your bike and lots more. The course is a mix of practical and theory learning so there is plenty of opportunity for riders to practice the skills they have learnt.

The courses run from 9.00am – 4.30pm and are held at ENZA on Nayland Road with each course costing $70 (or $35 with valid student ID / community services card). Riders will need to bring their own bike and must hold an appropriate license for this bike.

Richmond & Districts Information Centre
 
Volunteers are required to work three or four hour shifts on a weekly or fortnightly basis at the Information Centre in Gladstone Road. Successful applicants would be required to work with more experienced volunteers initially before being asked to work on their own. Applicants should have a knowledge of the local community, be well presented and enjoy meeting and conversing with visitors from all over New Zealand and the world. The Centre is well appointed with good facilities. If you are interested in this type of work, call in to the Centre or phone 03 543 9521 for further details.

Motueka's Friday Night Youth Taxi
Only $2 to get home safe, warm and easy on a Friday night.

Pickup from:
Motueka Recreation Centre at 10.00 pm
Church of Christ, High St Motueka at 10.30 pm

The taxi will deliver youth aged 18 and under home, anywhere within the Motueka Ward (which includes Riwaka, Brooklyn, Motueka Valley etc)

Luminate Festival
 
28 January 2010 - 2 February 2010

Where: Canaan Downs, Takaka Hill

Returning for its third year, Luminate is an earth friendly festival of music, dance, art, creativity and sustainability, organized by the Luminate Festival Educational and Spiritual Trust. The Trust aims are to educate on how to live sustainably, encourage spiritual, mental and physical well being and provide an opportunity to participate in and gain a wider appreciation of traditional and contemporary arts and culture.

Arts Council Nelson administers grants up to a maximum of $500, to assist arts based projects which demonstrate clear community benefits in the Richmond, Tasman and Waimea areas.

Closing dates for applications are the second Wednesday of each month.

Application forms may be uplifted from the Arts Council Office, posted out on request or may be downloaded from our website at www.acn.org.nz
