Tasman District Council has recently released its first urban design action plan.
The plan signals an ongoing commitment to ensure sound design principles are incorporated in Council capital works and private development projects.
Urban design champion and Mayor Richard Kempthorne welcomed the new plan and said an urban design panel will be appointed early this year to assist the Council and developers on urban design matters.
“It is important that the special natural environment of the district is complemented by equally high quality buildings and Council is keen to ensure these matters are properly considered when developments come forward,” said Mayor Kempthorne.
Streetscaping, urban design training and a new urban design award are other initiatives included in the action plan.
