Ecofest Business Tours Monday 14 July 2008
The Ecofest Business Tour is on again this year, and will be visiting five sustainable businesses that work to a triple bottom line – where social and environmental performance are considered alongside economic viability.
Each business will show how they have integrated sustainable business principles into their systems and how this has made good financial sense. This is an opportunity to look at ways to introduce sustainable practices to your business and to improve your bottom line, in more ways than one.
The business tour will visit the following businesses:
Tasman Bay Vets, which has a strong focus on recycling. As a result of focusing on making the business more sustainable, a new area of business in eco-pet products has opened up. The business has also recently completed the Get Sustainable Challenge with the Sustainable Business Network, and the owners will talk about this process.
Parkes Automotive, which has systems in place to recycle industrial waste such as batteries, steel, gas tanks, waste oil and aluminium.
Jester House, a café that has operated from a strong sustainable base for the last 17 years.
Trubet Holdings Ltd, which sorts and recycles all waste from its building sites, uses untreated macrocarpa and is working towards new environmentally friendly products.
Waverly Street Kindergarten, which showcases the passive solar design the Nelson Kindergarten Association proudly uses for four of its businesses.
The tour is scheduled for Wednesday 13 August 2008, from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm, and will be hosted by Karen Driver of Waste Education Services. The tour leaves Millers Acre at 8.30 am and Tasman District Council in Richmond at 9.00 am. Tickets cost $20.00 per person, which includes morning tea, and can be purchased from Council offices or by email to ecofest@xtra.co.nz
