Funding Expo for Tasman
29 April 2009

Council is once again supporting a free community funding expo for Tasman District. The event will be held on 22 May 2009 at the Hope Community Church, Ranzau Road, Hope from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Organiser Judene Edgar of Tasman Fundraising and Development Ltd said trying to raise funds in a recession is even harder than normal, and local people need all the help they can get to access funds and achieve their community goals.
Guest Speaker at the event will be James Austin, CEO of the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand. James’s presentation will cover the basic principles of fundraising, preparing a fundraising strategy, acquiring donors and how to keep them on board along with an effective bequest and capital fundraising campaign.

“In this recessionary environment, professional fundraising will make all the difference between success and failure,’’ says James. “Many philanthropic trusts are finding their disposable income considerably less than previous years. Many individuals will question if they can continue to support their preferred charities at their current level of giving. Yet at the same time, as the recession deepens, many charities will find more people requiring their services. New and innovative fundraising ideas and relationship building is critical to financial security for many charities.’’

There are also two panels this year – one on sponsorship and one on Ministry of Social Development funding which covers Child, Youth & Family, Family & Community Services, Ministry of Youth Development and Work & Income who administer a wide range of funding pools such Enterprising Communities, Community Action Fund, Pathway to Partnership and Social Work Study Awards, to name just a few.

“The Sponsorship panel is also an exciting edition to this year’s Expo line-up as it provides organisations with criteria used to assess proposals,” said organiser Judene Edgar.
