One of the objectives listed in Tasman District Council's mission statement is to enhance community development and the natural, cultural and recreational assets relating to Tasman District.

One of the ways that Council sets out to achieve part of this objective is to administer a number of community grants schemes, scholarships and awards.

Council provides a number of halls for the public to hire.

The appearance and maintenance of heritage buildings and structures in the Tasman district is an indication of how highly heritage is regarded here.

Council supports information centres in a number of locations around the district.

Libraries
 
Tasman District Libraries provide public library services at four main locations in Tasman District. The District Library is located in Richmond and there are branch libraries in Motueka, Takaka and Murchison.

As well as providing many types of media for public lending, the libraries also provide reservations, Inter library Loans, internet access and much more.

Mature Persons Scholarships
 
Scholarships are awarded annually to enable mature people undertake further education.

Museums
 
Tasman District Council is a joint partner with Nelson City Council in owning and operating the Nelson Provincial Museum. Other museums are situated in Motueka and Takaka with smaller museums also supported by the Council in Murchison, Collingwood and Rockville.
