Grant applications due
Tasman District Council’s Grants from Rates scheme offers financial support for community projects run by organisations that support well being and benefit the community. Grants from Rates is a means of supporting and encouraging communities to maintain and celebrate diversity, and appplications can be made in the following categories:
Community and Economic Development intiatives
Arts, culture and heritage
Festivals and events
Youth/Children
Social services
Beautification schemes
Emergency services
Community newsletters
Museums

The funds come from a pool of $162,000 reserved from the general rate, and successful applications are usually for less that $2000. Larger projects are advised to apply via the Annual Plan.
The grants from rates funds have in the past helped activities ranging from walkways and visitor facilities at the Mangarakau swamp to local events such as the regional Santa Parades and Last of the Summer Fare. Facilities for youth, art and craft projects, beautification schemes such as track building and plantings and outdoor pursuits have all benefited from these funds.

Applications for the current round of funding need to be with Tasman District Council by 29 August. Forms can be downloaded here or picked up from Tasman District Council offices.
