Tasman District Councillors and Council staff are getting behind the men's health promotion Movember and have put out the challenge to Nelson City Councillors to do the same.
Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne said the fight against prostate cancer and depression was worth a month's minor irritation on the top lip.
"I can weather the jibes about looking like a Mexican bandito," he laughed.
Mayor Kempthorne and the other male Councillors will be collecting donations for their efforts throughout the month of November.
He said he hoped to spark a bit of friendly rivalry for a good cause with the Nelson City council.
"This is a good opportunity to see where the growth in our region really is," he joked.
