Rivers
Council carries out river care works along 290km of classified rivers throughout the District. Work on other rivers is possible via a 50:50 joint funding mechanism. Further information may be obtained from our Engineering Services Department.

Roads
Council maintains 1,660 kilometres of roads in the Tasman District, approximately half of which are sealed. Each year Council considers what seal extensions should be made in the coming year and ratepayers are encouraged to put forward their views. Enquiries on seal extensions or road maintenance should be made with the Engineering Services Department.

Road Safety Coordinator Tasman District Council employs a Road Safety Coordinator. The coordinator works with a wide range of groups and organizations to deliver road safety projects. These projects are based on local road safety issues and can vary from year to year. The road safety coordinator can be contacted on (03) 543 8551.

Cycle and pedestrian safety and promotion
Roadside safety billboards
Walking and cycling to school

Roadside Mowing and Spraying The New Zealand Transport Agency is responsible for the maintenance of road berms on State Highways. For berms on Council roads, responsibility lies with the adjoining property owner.

Rural Property Numbers Tasman District Council has undertaken a project to allocate a unique address to all rural properties, schools, churches, halls, and other significant commercial buildings. This process is also referenced as the RAPID (Rural Address Property IDentification) numbering system.
