Recycling - Resource Recovery Centres (RRC)
In the Tasman District there are five Resource Recovery Centres run by Smart Environmental with Fulton Hogan.

These centres accept a variety of recyclable and reusable materials.

These are the same materials collected in the kerbside collection (All numbered plastics (1-7), except polystyrene, tins/cans, newspaper, cardboard, magazines, other paper and glass), firewood, reusable timber lengths (treated and untreated), scrap metal, roofing iron, car batteries, cars (stripped or unstripped), whiteware, tyres, waste oil and green waste. For a full list of materials collected and any charges incurred please see below.

For the Richmond area green waste should be delivered directly to Council's green waste operator Greenwaste to Zero in Cargill Place, off Beach Road.



Opening Hours
Richmond, Beach Road 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, seven days a week

Mariri, Robinson Road 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Saturday and 1.00 to 4.00 pm Sunday

Takaka, Scotts Road
8.30 am to 4.00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Saturday and 1.30 to 4.00 pm Sunday.

21 December to 15 February: 8.30 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Saturday and Sunday

Collingwood, Bainham - Collingwood Rd
1.00 to 4.00pm Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
21 December to 15 February: 1.00 to 4.00 pm, Monday to Sunday inclusive.

Murchison, Matakitaki West Bank Road

1.00 to 4.00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Saturday

Daylight Saving hours: 2.00 to 6.00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Saturday.
Rest of the Year: closes at 5.00 pm.

Note: All Resource Recovery Centres are closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.


Tasman District Council Waste Disposal Charges – Effective from 1 July 2009 TO 30 June 2010

Rubbish Bags 40 litre (at Council offices) (each) - $1.40

Mixed Refuse
Other vehicles (per m3) - $40.00
Account customers and vehicles over 3500kg gross where a Council-provided weighbridge is available - $92.25 per tonne

Tyres
Car tyre (each) - $6.00
Car tyre on rim (each) - $15.00
Truck tyre (each) - $18.00
Tractor/loader tyre (each) - $40.00

Scrap Steel
Car bodies (complying) - no charge
Other vehicles and non-complying cars - $10.00
Whiteware - $5.00
Scrap steel (sheet) - no charge

Recyclables (where accepted)
Domestic customers and quantities less than 1.0 m3 - No charge
Glass (bottles) – where a Council provided weighbridge is available - $18.00 per tonne
Glass (bottles, whole), other locations - $6.00 per m3
Paper and cardboard (Richmond and Takaka only) - No charge
Other materials - By arrangement

Hardfill
Where a Council-provided weighbridge is available - $15.00 per tonne
At other sites - $30.00 per m3

Green waste per m3 - $18.00
In Richmond greenwaste should be taken directly to Council's greenwaste operator Greenwaste to Zero in Cargill Place off Beach Road (per m3) - $18.00
Charges apply to all Tasman District Council Resource Recovery Centre’s and are subject to change within the existing contracts from time to time.

Hazardous Waste
Oils and solvents - no charge
Batteries - no charge
Gas cylinders - no charge
Household chemicals - TDC has an arrangement with NCC for the disposal of these items. For more information on options for Golden Bay and how you can access the NCC service and the related charges please check here.
Other materials - at disposal cost

Eves Valley Landfill charges
Approved special wastes - $146.25 per tonne
Special burial and documentation - At cost
Light wastes (polystyrene and similar) - $60.00 per m3
Marine Waste (shells) - $60.00 per m3


Current charges are displayed at the Resource Recovery Centres.
