Takaka Fire Fighting Water Supply Takaka has inadequate water for fighting fires. The Takaka CBD is currently serviced by old firewells that cannot supply enough water and in some cases are unusable.
A Working Party made up of Golden Bay Community Board members, NZ Fire Service, Takaka Fire Service Trust, Council staff, consultants and community representatives, has recommended that a reticulated water supply would be the most cost-effective option to supply Takaka with water for fire fighting.
That proposal is now out for public consultation and you are invited to have your say.
A summary of the proposal has been delivered to every ratepayer in Golden Bay. Copies of the full summary document are also available at Council offices, the Takaka Memorial Library and can be downloaded below.
Submissions should be sent to the Robyn Scherer, Engineering Secretary, Tasman District Council, Private Bag 4, Richmond 7050, or emailed to robyn.scherer@tdc.govt.nz, by 4.00 pm, Monday 16 February 2009. You can also make a submission online via the Council website.
Public Open Day A public open day to provide information about the proposal to provide a reticulated water supply for fire fighting in Takaka will be held on Wednesday 28 January 2009, from 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm, at the Takaka Fire Station. This will be followed by a public meeting (also at the Fire Station) at 7.00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
