Tasman Collection
A fresh batch of great summer reading has been launched. The Tasman Collection is on shelves now. All these publications are a must have for locals and visitors and they make very handy Christmas gifts too. They’re available from all Council offices, libraries, information centres and selected bookstores.

Walk Tasman

This perennial favourite is back in a much more user-friendly format. All the existing walks from Walk Tasman 1 and 2 are combined with 18 exciting new walks to create a bumper book containing a total of 66 walks.
It’s also in a new ring bound smaller format that can be slipped easily into a pocket so you can take it on your walk.
The new walks cover Richmond, Waimea, Motueka, Riwaka, Kawatiri and Golden Bay.

Bike Tasman

This is the perfect guide for a two-wheeled exploration of our District. Bike Tasman has also been redesigned into the new easily portable ring-bound format. It covers a range of biking options from beginners to advanced so there’s always a new route to try as your skill levels improve. Flying Start: Aviation in Motueka

The first aircraft touched down in 1921, pioneer aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith called in the 1930s, and the strip is now the base for an aviation college, commercial skydiving and even drag-racing. Buzzing on land and in the air.

Taming the Gowan

The sky blackened for days in the big agricultural burnoff of 1923. But Gowan residents are a hardened bunch, surviving goldrush boom, earthquakes, a railway line that collapsed, the closure of schools and the rigours of farming in a climate of extremes.

Tarakohe, A Community Port

The name Golden Bay became synonymous nationwide with cement, and it all went out through the region’s port until the plant closed in 1988. Tarakohe has since found new life as a haven for boaties and commercial fishing and aquaculture vessels.
