The Tasman Skatepark Tour is on track to deliver thrills and spills again in summer 2008. Tasman’s extreme skateboarders and BMX bandits will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at skateparks across Tasman District on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons throughout January.
Building upon the success of the 2007 events, the Tasman Skatepark Tour gets under way in Mapua on Wednesday 9 January, 2008, with dates following at Takaka, Tapawera, Motueka and Brightwater skateparks, before concluding with a grand final in Richmond on Saturday 26 January.
Skate and BMX open jam competitions will take place in the junior (age five to 11), senior (age 12 to 17) and open (age 18 and over) groups, with competitors competing for prizes and vouchers put up by tour sponsors Cheapskates and Village Cycles. Registrations will be taken on the day, with spot prizes going to spectators and competitors.
To complement the action there will be live music, with performances by some of the region's best up and coming bands. Nothing but Trouble, Komatose, Llamatron and Sanity Fails are among the confirmed acts.
This is a Tasman District Council event, in association with the Tasman Youth Council. For more information contact Tasman District Council Community Recreation Officer Paul McConachie Ph 03 543 8525.
