Tasman water situation
Many rivers in Tasman District are experiencing low flows for this time of the year. This is principally due to the lack of rain in the last six weeks.

Several rivers including the Waimea, Anatoki, and Takaka and Te Waikoropupu Springs are below the trigger level for stage one water take restrictions.

Surface water consent holders using water have been advised of this and are complying with their water permit restrictions.

The Wairoa River at the Gorge is at 2350 litres/second (l/s), Anatoki at 2100 l/s, Lower Wai-iti at 200 l/s, Motueka at Woodmans Bend at 11000 l/s, Lower Riwaka 900 l/s, Takaka is between 1,500 l/s and 3000 l/s (fluctuating with generation from Cobb Power Station) and the Cobb dam is currently 2.2 % full.

Groundwater levels are also low for this time of the year. However as irrigation water usage is low, and there is no saltwater intrusion, the Council has not moved to impose water restrictions.

Council is keeping a close eye on all the water resources in the district and will notify the public if the conditions deteriorate further.
