World Environment Day
World Environment Day is coming up on 5 June 2008 and Council is encouraging people to either leave their cars at home for the day and take the bus or cycle, or carpool with others.

Nelson City Council is managing a Government grant of $8720 for events to celebrate World Environment Day in both Nelson and Tasman.

Show your support for better public transport by taking the bus! All buses running between Richmond and Nelson will be free for the day and extra bus services are scheduled. From 7 - 8.45 am and 4 - 5.45 pm buses will run every 15 minutes.

Commuters who carpool into Nelson will be eligible for free parking in the Council run carparks. Cars must have at least two occupants to qualify for free parking.

With winter approaching it’s more important than ever that cyclists ensure they can be easily seen on the road. On World Environment Day, Tasman District Council’s road safety team will be holding a cycle visibility campaign.

Anyone who walks, cycles or carpools on Thursday 5 June 2008 can have a free breakfast at one of four locations across the district. There will be tasty food and giveaways.

Richmond - Queen St, outside Village Cycles, 7.30 - 8.30 am
Motueka - High St, outside Museum, 7.00 - 9.00 am
Takaka - Commercial St, outside Take Note, 7.30 - 9.30 am
